Behind the scenes

Hi there! I'm Karen, the artisan behind Karen Louise Leather. My journey into leathercraft began in 2011, after an unfulfilling job in project administration left me searching for a more creative and fulfilling path.  I initially started sewing fabric items - tote bags and home furnishings in my spare time, which I found both enjoyable and rewarding. This interest eventually led me to experiment with leather, prompting me to formally study leathercraft and hand sewing, which has since become my true passion.

Originally founded under a different name in South Africa, my business has evolved over the years. Now based in London, I've dedicated over a decade to improving my leathercraft skills. Each piece I create is a labor of love, meticulously handcrafted from high-quality full grain, vegetable-tanned leather, and finished with solid brass hardware. My goal is to make durable, beautiful products that you can cherish for years to come.

For many years, I sold my creations at craft markets, meeting interesting clients and gaining invaluable insights into what people love and need in their everyday accessories. These experiences helped shape the products I offer today, ensuring they are both functional and uniquely stylish.

I take pride in the small details such as hand sewing high wear areas on each product. Many of my items come with serial numbers traceable to the tannery, ensuring transparency and quality. Plus, I'm committed to sustainability, offering  plastic-free packaging on all orders.

Thank you for stopping by and supporting local, handmade craftsmanship. I hope you find something you love here at Karen Louise Leather, and don't hesitate to get in touch!
